There’s A Moment When…

There’s a moment when,

The wind rushes through my hair,

I’m walking and then,

The water ripples with strange dreams,

I’ve only ever seen,

In my sleep

There’s a moment when,

I grasp a pen, and sweat I feel

But can’t see, stops me thinking

The words get jammed at the nib,

And I’m not sure I can feel,

Anything, then

There’s a moment,

When my family calls,

And my heart is full to bursting,

With sudden love,

And pheasant calls at dawn,

(the sound of home)

There’s a moment when,

I’m in pain again,

And I try to walk it off,

Because lying in bed would be sad,

Because it’s never just pain,

It’s pain and the story we weave

Around it

There’s a moment when,

I see that I’m human,

In the toothpaste speckled mirror,

Of my room, and blue eyes

Speak to me in a soul language

That ties me in comfortable knots –

I forgot

That

There’s a moment when,

Darkness falls,

And the waters still,

And the birds sleep,

And the pain fades,

There’s a moment when,

I remember I am human,

And, then, feelings flow

From my broken pen

Ink splatters on my hands,

In that moment when –

You know?

There’s that moment when,

I recognise

I am home

To myself.
